“ . . . the step-by step outlines and processes helped break down vague concepts into precise segments with specific boundaries . . .”

I am very new to the nonprofit world, new to leading a Board, and new to grantwriting. I lived in Africa from 1982 to 2000, so I am also rather new to the world of technology. Before taking Maryn's course I was very intimidated by the idea of doing anything related to grants. I had no idea how to approach the questions being asked, and was puzzled by what the expectations of the grant-readers might be.
Maryn’s friendly, matter-of-fact style put me quickly at ease. Especially helpful were the frequent references to what the grant-readers would hope to find, what their perspectives would be, and how they approached the process. That gave me confidence in determining how to approach questions. Also the step-by step outlines and processes helped break down vague concepts into precise segments with specific boundaries. This is helpful in working through descriptions of expectations and outcomes.
We are just now entering into a season of much fund-seeking and grant writing. I am feeling much more confident and glad to have resources to go back to for formatting and process.
Having seen what will be required in the reporting and writing of grants will be very helpful in establishing policy and procedure of our program management. I have been sharing many of the sessions with our Executive Director and Program Director.
